In the US, box springs may be the norm, but in Europe, beds look different. Many incorporate a flexible slat suspension foundation. We believe our flexible slat system offers important advantages over a box spring—advantages that make a real difference in the feel of your mattress and the quality of your sleep.
While our mattresses are great on platform surfaces, they are engineered to work in tandem with the flexible slats to deliver enhanced support and comfort. The slats are a high-performance option that can be integrated to create a complete sleep system. The flexible slat system is available in both high and low profiles for use in either box spring or platform-style bedframes.
How It Works
The flexible slat system is a support foundation for your mattress that consists of a dual-sided series of bowed wooden slats. These slats flex and rotate under pressure, responding to the weight and shape of your body. The flexible slats feature adjustable zones at the torso and upper leg with variable tension settings for individualized support.
The slats are able to give where we are heavier and broader—at the shoulders and hips—and lift where our bodies taper—at the waist, low back, and knees. The result is a more weightless dynamic, greater postural stability, and relief from contact pressure. The responsiveness of the system also reduces motion transfer.
When your mattress rests on the slat system, it also benefits from the increased air circulation permitted by the open-slat structure. This helps keep your mattress drier, and a dry mattress lasts longer, stays cleaner, and is more comfortable. It becomes part of the healthier sleep environment equation.
Slat System Features
- Dual-sided structure: Each sleeper can customize settings for individual support needs
- Adjustable tension: Support can be modified as needs change
- Slat suspension: Relieves pressure, isolates motion, circulates air for drier mattress
- Available in high and low profiles: Fits in any bedframe
