We all want a comfortable mattress, but everyone defines comfort differently. Some of us choose a soft mattress that envelops the body, while others prefer a firmer bed. But softness and firmness aren't the only defining factors for a comfortable mattress.
Comfort Needs vs. Preferences
First, there are comfort needs. These are performance characteristics that are essential to mattress comfort. Breathability, pressure reduction, contour, cleanliness, and minimal bounce or motion are all important mattress-design features that can make or break a comfortable night's sleep. And they are all features that are universally viewed as fundamental to sleep comfort.
But what about comfort preferences? Once your fundamental comfort needs are addressed—your mattress is doing its job well—there are variations on what individuals associate as comfortable. These can often be more subtle influences. For instance, there's mattress dynamic to consider: do you want a mattress that feels light and buoyant or prefer a denser, static, and more stable feel? Depending on its construction, a mattress has its own personality, and chances are you will "click" with one style over another.
Familiarity is another comfort consideration: what we "know" is often what we feel is comfortable. Have you spent the last ten years on a rock-hard bed? Have you had one size bed for many years and are now buying smaller or larger? Have you gone from one person sleeping in a bed to two? The change could improve your experience, or you might find it at least temporarily uncomfortable.
Helping You Find Comfort
We understand that sleep comfort is multifaceted and both needs and preferences count. We start by building a bed specifically to meet comfort needs. Innovative coil designs, natural fiber covers, latex foam, European-style flexible slat foundations, chemical-free certification—these design features help us get the fundamentals right and meet your comfort needs.
To meet your comfort preferences, we've designed a diverse group of five mattresses, each with their own individual dynamics and choice of firmness. Rather than offer one mattress in soft, medium, and firm, we take a more nuanced approach. Our mattress system is also modular so you can "build" the combination that works for you. Combine your mattress with the flexible slat system for deeper contour. Add a pillow top if you like things extra plush.
We also have a team of sales people that understand this comfort matrix. They are trained to walk you through your choices. They'll listen to you, ask questions, and give you ideas to consider. We strive to create a relaxed environment, and we enjoy helping people find their comfortable bed.
